New Peer-Reviewed Study Shows Sustained Improvement in Skin Laxity Through Nine Months After a Single Sofwave™ Treatment in Asian Patients
Date
Prospective study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine reports improvement in submental and neck laxity through nine months, with no hyperpigmentation reported
SAN CLEMENTE, California — October 5, 2026 — Sofwave Medical today announced the publication of a prospective clinical study in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, the official journal of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS), evaluating the use of Sofwave™ to improve skin laxity and facial wrinkles in Asian patients.
Led by Henry H. L. Chan, MD, of the Division of Dermatology at The University of Hong Kong and the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, the study provides peer-reviewed evidence in an entirely Asian patient population, a group underrepresented in prior energy-device research.
“We are encouraged by the sustained improvement observed after a single treatment, with meaningful results maintained through nine months,” said Henry H. L. Chan, MD. “Just as importantly, this study adds valuable clinical evidence in Asian patients and helps broaden our understanding of how this technology performs across diverse skin types.”
The prospective, open-label, single-center study enrolled 42 Asian participants aged 35 to 67. Sixty-nine percent had Fitzpatrick skin type IV. Each participant received a single Sofwave™ treatment covering the full face, neck and submental areas, with outcomes assessed at three, six and nine months.
Key findings:
83.3% of evaluable subjects showed improvement in submental and neck laxity at three months
71.4% showed improvement at six months and 69.2% at nine months
Statistically significant Fitzpatrick Wrinkling/Elastosis improvement was observed at three, six and nine months
No burns, nerve injury, hyperpigmentation, blistering, ulceration or scarring were reported across all 42 patients
Treatment was well tolerated, with a mean pain score of 5.06 out of 10
“These findings add to the growing body of clinical evidence supporting Sofwave’s ability to deliver meaningful, sustained improvement with a single treatment,” said Louis Scafuri, Chief Executive Officer of Sofwave Medical. “The inclusion of an entirely Asian patient population also provides valuable data in a group that has historically been underrepresented in aesthetic energy-device research.”
