John Shieh, MD, is the founder and medical director of RejuvaYou Medical in South Pasadena, California. He began working with skin-rejuvenation technologies in 2001 and brings approximately two and a half decades of experience evaluating and using energy-based treatments for skin tightening, collagen remodeling, facial rejuvenation, and natural-looking aesthetic improvement. RejuvaYou Medical was recognized by Sofwave as the first practice in the Los Angeles area to introduce the technology in 2020. Dr. Shieh’s extensive experience with earlier generations of radiofrequency, infrared, ultrasound, laser, and minimally invasive skin-tightening technologies allowed him to evaluate Sofwave from a broad clinical perspective. He chose to bring the technology into his practice after recognizing its potential to provide meaningful, noninvasive collagen stimulation and natural-looking lifting and tightening. In February 2021, Dr. Shieh presented one of the first Sofwave educational webinars for physicians, sharing his early clinical experience, treatment techniques, and practical insights with medical professionals across the country. He has since continued to serve as a Sofwave physician educator, guest speaker, advisor, and expert panelist at national webinars, CME programs, advisory meetings, professional conferences, Sofwave user events, and in-person educational programs for physicians evaluating, adopting, or learning to use the technology. Dr. Shieh has presented on Sofwave at professional programs in Beverly Hills, Hawaii, San Diego, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and City of Industry. His appearances have included the Sofwave SUPERB Dinner at Pacific Palms Resort, the Sofwave Aesthetic Experts Advisory Meeting during the AACS conference, a physician-education event in Hawaii, the Sofwave Summer Dinner at BOA Steakhouse, the CACS Annual Symposium, and the inaugural Sofwave Got Lift event at the Beverly Hilton. Dr. Shieh’s work as a physician educator extends well beyond Sofwave. Between 2005 and 2010, he delivered approximately 200 presentations at physician seminars and professional educational programs. During a formative period in the development of medical aesthetics, his presentations helped physicians understand emerging aesthetic technologies, clinical techniques, treatment integration, and the expanding possibilities of nonsurgical rejuvenation. He has continued teaching and presenting in the years since as the field has grown and matured. At RejuvaYou Medical, Sofwave is not treated as a standardized, one-size-fits-all procedure. Dr. Shieh has continued to refine Sofwave protocols through years of clinical experience, with close attention to patient selection, facial anatomy, treatment coverage, pulse placement, total energy, safety, comfort, and natural-looking results. His experience across multiple generations of energy-based devices allows him to understand where Sofwave fits within the broader range of noninvasive and minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments. Sofwave is also incorporated into Dr. Shieh’s individualized Five Pillars approach to facial rejuvenation, which evaluates the different factors contributing to each patient’s aging pattern rather than focusing on a single concern or treatment. When appropriate, Sofwave may be used alone or combined with complementary regenerative and rejuvenating treatments to address the patient more comprehensively. The goal at RejuvaYou Medical is to create meaningful lifting, tightening, and collagen remodeling while preserving each patient’s natural facial character—helping patients look refreshed, balanced, and rejuvenated rather than altered.
